Courses

Perhaps a college that has had its catalog quoted in Spy Magazine several years in a row doesn't need its course list parodied. Some folks, you don't have to parody, you just quote 'em. However, parody is fun, so we'll do both. The real Bard course lists have been on the web since 1995, but Bard moves them every semester as they constantly re-chart their computing course. These days, it's a good bet you can find them somewhere on inside.bard.edu. Actually, the real Bard course lists have gotten less funny since the departure of Ben Boretz. Okay, on to the parodies:

Anything Bard-related EXCEPT Bard's own sanitized-for-your-protection servers! In search of... Student pages, Alumni commentary, Images of Bard...

Note: I first wrote that Bard's servers were "sanitized-for-your-protection" back in 1995. I was referring to the fact that at that time nearly every college institution in the US was giving its students the unmediated ability to publish on the web, but Bard was not. Since then, I have received mail from at least 3 Bard webmasters, indignant or amused by my response to their work. In Spring 1999, Bard finally introduced a student webserver, although at this writing (October 1999) it is still listed as a "new project" and students are required to disclaim any responsibility on Bard's part for their writing. Still a bit regressive for A Place To Think.

Trying to find a Bard person?

  1. Try calling the alumni development office at 1-800-BARD-COL. They will supposedly give out the addresses of Bard students or alumni on request. (You can also call them if you don't want them to do this with your address!). You can also write to them at alumni@bard.edu. If there are a lot of alumni you are interested in, they publish a printed alumni directory every few years, and I'm sure you could convince them to send you one.
  2. If the person you are looking for is currently a Bard student or faculty member, try calling the switchboard at (914) 758-6822. You have the best chance of getting someone who can help you during business hours.
  3. Don't e-mail me asking me if I know them. Nearly everyone I knew at Bard is gone, and the only information I have is the above.
